How it works

Highbankers operate by using a motorized pump to deliver a continuous flow of water over a sluice box, allowing prospectors to process gold-bearing gravels away from the immediate edge of a stream. The water washes the material through a hopper and over a grizzly screen, which classifies the rocks and drops the heavier material into the sluice below. Inside the sluice, specialized matting creates active water vortices that classify the material by specific gravity, trapping heavy gold particles deep within the cells while lighter waste material is washed away.
